How Can We Help You?ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems (QMS)Question What is ISO 9001:2000? Answer ISO stands for the International Standards Organisation, they produce Standards for all types of products and services which are accepted by over 100 Countries Worldwide. An organisation which is certified to one of these Standards has to meet the minimum criteria within the Standard and will be assessed by a 3rd party Accreditation Agency. The ISO 9001:2000 Standard applies to an Organisations Quality Management System and requires the Organisation to have systems in place to not only assure Quality but also Customer satisfaction. This Standard also has a requirement for the Organisation to demonstrate that they have a Continuous Improvement programme. Question I’ve been told that ISO 9001 requires you to have a lot of extra paperwork which in turn will require extra time and staff to look after, is that true? Answer With our Quality Management Systems, the opposite is often the truth, you’ll require less time and staff as you’ll be working to a better structure and doing more things right first time. Our motto is ‘If it doesn’t add value, don’t do it’. There is no point in filling paperwork just to satisfy a standard, you only need to do what is required to add value to your business, satisfy your customers and continuously improve. Six Sigma (s)Question What is s and why do we need six of them? Answer Sigma (s) is the term used to indicate variance from target. We want our variance to be as small as possible therefore we want our s value to be as small as possible, if we are a 6s organisation we will be able to fit 6s between the centre of our processes and their upper/lower specifications and we would get it right 99.998% of the time. If we were working to 3s we would only get it right 99.73% of the time. Question 99.73% looks impressive to me, why do we need to be better than that? Answer The table below compares 6s results to 3s results for everyday processes/activities across the World, which would you chose?
